What is WBPSC Miscellaneous Exam?
Unlike the WBCS which targets Group A officers, the Miscellaneous Services exam recruits for mid-level government positions. It is one of the most popular exams conducted by WBPSC, attracting lakhs of applicants every year.

Exam Pattern
The WBPSC Miscellaneous exam consists of two stages:
Preliminary Examination
- 200 MCQ questions, 200 marks
- Duration: 2 hours 30 minutes
- Negative marking: 1/3 mark per wrong answer
- Subjects: General Studies, Current Affairs, Reasoning, Arithmetic
Main Examination
- Written descriptive exam
- Papers: English, Bengali, General Studies, Optional Subject
- Followed by personality test (interview)
Eligibility
A bachelor’s degree from a recognized university is the minimum qualification. Age limit is 21 to 36 years (with relaxation for reserved categories). Some posts may have additional physical fitness requirements.
Salary Range
Selected candidates can expect a starting salary in the pay band of Rs. 25,000 to Rs. 45,000 per month (depending on the post), plus DA and other government allowances.
