How to Calculate Your Age for WB Government Exams

Your age is always calculated as on a reference date mentioned in the notification — usually the last date to apply. Your age on that exact date is what matters, not your current age.

For example, if the notification says “Upper age limit: 36 years as on January 1, 2026” — you must be 36 years or younger on January 1, 2026.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can I combine age relaxation from two categories?

No. You can only claim relaxation under one category — whichever is most beneficial to you. You cannot add OBC relaxation and PWD relaxation together.

Does age relaxation apply if I belong to OBC of another state?

No. Age relaxation for OBC is applicable only for candidates who belong to OBC (West Bengal state list). OBC candidates from other states are treated as General candidates for age purposes in WB exams.

What documents prove age relaxation eligibility?

For SC/ST/OBC: Caste certificate issued by competent authority in West Bengal. For PWD: Disability certificate from Medical Board. For Ex-Servicemen: Discharge certificate.
